Stephanie McWha

INTERN THERAPIST

I am a Canadian expat who moved to Belgium as a trailing spouse in 2017. I have a background in cultural geography, but as with many trailing spouses I was challenged to rethink my career trajectory and returned to university to complete a Master of Arts degree in Counselling Psychology. My interest came from having worked with teenagers for over a decade and witnessing that many of them were medicated for symptoms of anxiety and depression but had no plans for therapy or opportunities to talk to anyone about their unique experiences and needs. I believe that everyone has the potential to grow when they are met with openness, acceptance and understanding. I love hearing about people’s stories and helping them find a place for themselves in the world.

I am currently completing my internship at Satori Health Centre, Leuven under the supervision of Larissa Ernst, Clinical Psychologist. I provide psychotherapy for expats aged 10 and up, as well as for international students and couples facing various life challenges. As an expat myself, I have experienced many of the hardships that can arise from living abroad, including anxiety, depression, isolation, and dependency. I work from a person-centered therapeutic approach and integrate aspects of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), interactional therapy, and mindfulness into my practice.

I work in English.
